Try to leave the Earth a better place than when you arrived.

We are a country of rich culture and heritage. Our festivals and celebrations are an integral part of our way of life. Every year around Diwali, cities across the country record the highest level of Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM). Most cities recorded RSPM levels five times higher than normal leaving people the risk of asthma, bronchial symptoms, lung inflammation and reduced lung function. Air pollution is a major cause for worry in India especially after a World Health Organization report last year reported that 13 of the 20 most polluted cities of the world were in India. (Source: Live Mint, Nikita Mehta)

Every year, Mumbai sees over 1.5 lakh Ganesh idols immersed in the waters, leading to major water pollution. Mumbai is also one of the largest cities of the world, which is still unable to supply clean and safe water to its residents.

Experts believe that Mumbai is one of the five cities in the world where water quality could be improved most by restoring river banks and working with farmers upstream to reduce runoff. (Source: The Guardian, Giulio Boccaletti, Global managing director of water at The Nature Conservancy)

Hidush has been working on contribution towards Sustainable Development goals (SDG )2030 and conducts programs on non use of single use plastic and beach cleaning exercises. Hidush also contributes by planting trees in the communities it works with

Hidush is active on social media and regularly contributes posts on sustainable development goals relating to climate change, bio-diversity, clean water sanitation and good health and well being.

In a complex ecosystem in India where there are many participants, there is a compelling case for local and community participation and governance. It is with this mindset that Hidush bases its approach to addressing issues related to the environment.

Through introducing ideas of water conservation, saving electricity and keeping the city clean at the school level we believe that we can immediately address how the next generation treats our environment. Small initiatives in the form of training programs, educational videos and films we hope to encourage both children and adults to participate and create an environment that will foster a lasting change for future generations to benefit from.

Areas of Impact

Hidush collaborates with schools it serves to include environmental resource and ecological conservation as a part of their education. With the use of educational films, Hidush encourages children to take constructive action concerning our environment. Hidush has been working in the communities it serves in increasing awareness of the perils of single use plastics and the need to replace such use with eco friendly bags.

Hidush Foundation has been organising beach clean up drives for the past 1 year at Silver beach Madh Island. This year it has coordinated with Rotaract Club of Mumbai Sky city and a local group to clean the beach and also conduct awareness programs to keep the surrounding clean. Hidush will work towards achieving the coveted “ blue flag certification “ for Silver beach in coordination with various agencies .

Through social media posts Hidush educates people in ways to celebrate our festivals keeping in mind our environment. With special initiatives such as No Sound, Only Light Diwali and make your Ganesh Hidush supports initiatives to keep our culture and nature alive.

Hidush is constantly looking for new project ideas that can provide effective solutions to our environment problems. To solve the problem of littering on the road, we are pursuing the design of garbage bags for automobiles. To solve the issue of wastage of water from household kitchen taps, we are working on developing the design for a robust and economical water saver tap.
